It only showed up a few times, because the chances of getting it was extremely low! It was ALWAYS AVAILABLE, and if monster had it I used it. So, I used it in all my 1E games I guess, if it showed up...

Anyone have a precis of this OP they would like to share? I just can't deal with all the Snarfiness of it, but firmly believe in the less is more design concept... as long as it fulfills the goal of the design as well.

Yeah, that is wrong... Paladin counts as half-level, so 4 levels, and Sorcerer counts full, +2 levels. This PC has the spell slots of a 6th level caster. Just 4 1st-level slots. The sorcerer points could add another.

A friend of mine posted a thread awhile back about removing the attack rolls and just rolling damage. Hits are so common making the attack roll almost becomes pointless.

Right, and XGtE did that. Going beyond introduced power creeep and such. From what I have seen, I don't think so. While 2024 is supposed to be fully backward-compatible, which it might be technically, but changes that are already there are not fixing actual issues, but more power creep IMO.

As a half-caster chassis, the warlock is fine, but it falls insanely short of working well for full-casters. Two spell slots for the tiers most game play in? No, thank you. Getting in a short rest has too much DM fiat into it IMO. Full-casters need access to more slots (or points) they can use...
