    D&D General Gen X D&D

I'm aware. Most of them are not nearly as different as they would like to believe.

    D&D General Millennial D&D (+)

As a former Homestuck fan...I can definitely say I saw parts of this myself. Uncritical acceptance of a warped, simplistic, context-divorced version of important concepts (like privilege) plus active...I guess "hostile astroturfing", led to some of the worst purity-culture toxicity I've ever...

    D&D General Gen X D&D

Even the upstanding-moral-exemplar heroism? Because what you just said, to me, screams Greco-Roman heroism. The kind that exalts the potent, not the principled; the mighty, not the moral; the proud (in both senses of the term), not the painstaking. All of which fits rather better with the...

    D&D General Gen X D&D

I guess I considered all of that wrapped up in the "dyed mohawks" part of it. And it's not like hair metal bands didn't wear tons of skintight black leather... More to the point, though, I see all that neon-and-pastels as glimmers in the dark, when it comes to "Gen X D&D." It's flashy, it's...

    D&D General Gen X D&D

Good. That means I've done justice to the concept, rather than dismissing it out of hand.

Oh, sure, no question. I just think that making that baked in for ALL players of a D&D-type thing, which is at least nominally meant to embrace a wide variety of options, would be unwise. Black licorice is a selective taste that absolutely isn't for everyone. But replacing it with red licorice...

    D&D General Gen X D&D

Thinking more critically, beyond the limits of what I said above (which, I admit, is a bit colored by my experiences)... Punk aesthetic is a must. Gen X was all in for leather and studs and dyed mohawks. As noted in the other thread...Question Authority. This was the generation that grew up...

    D&D General Millennial D&D (+)

For my part, hearing that, I think of the "Eight Deadly Words," per TVTropes: "I don't care what happens to these people." (Allegedly coined by Dorothy Jones Heydt on Usenet.) Watching terrible people suffer because of their terribleness just makes me sad in most cases. It requires a pretty...

    D&D General Millennial D&D (+)

As usual, generations are artificial. The earliest Millennials will have more in common with the late Gen Xers and vice-versa. I'm pretty close to the middle of Millennials, and I can absolutely say that folks in my general age group have gotten REALLY REALLY sick and tired of so many stories...
  10. EzekielRaiden

    D&D General Gen X D&D

See, this is where you put the Grimdark D&D. Gen X is the one that grew up on the "Dark Age of Comics." Gen X is the generation that loved "sticking it to the man," that went all in for the violence and the sex and the brutality and all the rest. Edgy, holier-than-thou nihilism is a perfect fit...

    D&D General Millennial D&D (+)

I'd say most of Europe was in a similar condition. With the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Iron Curtain, many places saw quite a bit of economic improvement and at least increased prosperity. Plenty of things didn't go well, it's not like it was some absolutely problem-free zone, but life was...

D&D (2024) Check Out The 2025 Monster Manual Alternate Cover!

Impressively, I like these even less than the standard covers, and I wasn't thrilled about them to begin with.

D&D 5E Adapting the Warlock Chassis for other Classes

I would not consider you (or a few other folks here) as being spellcaster fans who also would like to see non-spellcasters getting lots of nice things. It is generally the non-spellcaster fans (regardless of their opinions of spellcasters) who ask for that.

D&D 5E Adapting the Warlock Chassis for other Classes

I would laugh, if I didn't know that you were actually serious here. No. It is not.

D&D 5E Adapting the Warlock Chassis for other Classes

The folks who support everyone getting their power fantasy should really speak up, then. Because I don't hear their voices. Like...ever. I hear the people crapping on non-caster power fantasies, while demanding caster power fantasies, on the regular.

D&D 5E New Monster Manual Cover

Don't like it. WAY too busy.
  20. EzekielRaiden

D&D 5E Adapting the Warlock Chassis for other Classes

The problem is, the people who want the power fantasy that casters offer don't want non-casters to have their power fantasy. I have a pretty dim view of that particular form of selfishness.
