    D&D 1E Favorite Obscure Rules from TSR-era D&D

We did in every pre-5e campaign I have ever run and most that I played in. 🤷🏾‍♂️ I miss it.

    D&D 1E Favorite Obscure Rules from TSR-era D&D

Yes! We just rolled our hit dice and healed that amount between adventures and that was all you healed. Absolutely no one played clerics when we were kids. I am actually adapting something like this for long rests in my Vanity 5e homebrew rules I am working on.

Are you looking for a room by room comparison or just a general vibe?

D&D General How Do You Handle Falling Damage?

Yeah, I think falls of 50 feet or more if you're generous and 100 feet or more if you want to be even close to something like reality. Of course, this system punishes falling/jumping on your own turn. I guess you fall faster when it is your intention to land ;)

D&D General How Do You Handle Falling Damage?

Yeah, I have allowed similar reactions to catch a falling ally (or catch yourself). Recently, a PC hiding behind a rock on the edge of a snowy cliff was pushed out of the way by an NPC "ally" looking to use the rock for cover for himself. I gave the PC a chance to catch themselves, but since he...

D&D General How Do You Handle Falling Damage?

I recently saw You Tube short that was suggesting a Falling house rule I thought was interesting. It basically called it the "Wile E. Coyote" rule. When you begin a fall, instead of falling immediately, you don't land until the end of your current or next turn. This may not be perfectly...

D&D General Fifty Years of Dungeons & Dragons, collection of essays published by MIT Press

Given what I know about Trammell, I am not surprised by your characterization of his contribution. But I now i am going to see if my local library can get me a copy so I can see for myself. As someone who has seriously mixed feelings about race, racial assumptions, and perspectives on the...

D&D General How Do You Handle Falling Damage?

Yeah I was gonna say that I'd probably not have water start doing damage until 20 ft, but counts as the full fall damage after that point.

I still run it that way in 5e. 😏

A Preview of The Making of Original Dungeons & Dragons: 1970-1977

That liminal space between being immature enough to play with a "Sex" rating but mature enough not to give yourself an 18 in it. ;) :p :ROFLMAO:

D&D General How Do You Handle Falling Damage?

I like the d10s thing. I may need to use that. I use d6s but do the cumulative thing of 1d6 for first 10 feet, 3d6 for 20 feet, 6d6 for 30, 10d6 for 40 feet and so on, and have never worried about a cap. I also require a Con save vs. death if you take over 50 points of damage (DC 10 + 1 / 10' of...

Did the Ads Recently Change on this Site (New Pop Ups)

They just started for me a week or so ago when I updated Chrome and nothing I've tried (including pop-up blockers) have worked. As I said in my other post, ads I can understand, but these kind of intrusive ads literally make the site too annoying to use.

D&D (2024) New Dungeon Master's Guide Cover Features Venger (From the D&D Cartoons)

Maybe a clearer image of it will change my mind, but I don't like the composition at all. Then again, the art matters almost nothing to me in terms of getting a game book should I decide I want it.

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

"I understand their position but since they are not articulating it the way I want I am going to keep arguing" is a hell of a stance to take over the course of 200 pages.

D&D General Why Do People Hate Gnomes?

And anyone looking for gnomes to love should read (reread? ;)) the Garvan Gnomes portion of my "Out of the Frying Pan" story hour, during which the PCs were the "guests" of gnomes for three (in-game) months - and then went on to feature gnome to varying degrees on and off for the next 70ish...

D&D General Why Do People Hate Gnomes?

Gnomes > Goliaths I've considered running a game with nothing but humans and gnomes! I'd allow a firbolg in my game before a goliath, and I don't allow firbolgs!

D&D General This week on HOW-I-RUN-IT.com: Dragon Mag Monday! reviewing Dragon #110 (June 1986)

Today I cover another vintage issue of Dragon Magazine (are they all vintage now?), #110 (June 1986) which so happened to be the 10th anniversary issue. It includes stats of Elminster, Ed Greenwood's first dive into the dracoliches and the Cult of the Dragon in print (that I know of), a new...
