Traveller is an interesting case. It's core mechanic has essentially been kept over the decades. Mongoose has simply refined it into something modern without losing any of the classic feel.

Sometimes it is, and sometimes it isnt. Folks here at EN World told me Person of Interest was really good. I tried for much longer than I normally would and it never grabbed me.

If im going rules lite, the companion just tags along and for narrative purposes works with the character in conjunction when it suits play. If the companion is going to have actions and can fight on par with another PC, thats second character sheet with a preference for baked in mechanics like...

It's true, you need more than an art piece to drive interest in expanded play. This could be a move in that direction, or a one off. Either way its a pretty piece for the book shelf that doesnt look like fantasy G.I. Joe cover #3344532213456

...and thats part of the problem. One of the reasons im more attracted to Pathfinder is Paizo makes much more of an effort to push play beyond monster kill sim in both artwork and mechanics (albeit with an overabundance of buckles ;)).

True. I think since 3E/4E the artwork has leaned fantasy kick ass action. Which isnt a wrong way to portray D&D, but this alternate cover implies a more storytelling in the lives of fantasy characters tone.
