I wonder if they're trying to head towards "check off all the groups of countries your ancestors were from several hundred years ago (if we ignore that some country borders changed a lot, the populations of several countries largely became mixtures of two or more in that time span, you might not...
The newest revisions to US federal standard SPD 15 (effective 28 Mar 2024) for data of this type when collected by the US government is now about "race and/or ethnicity" and mandates allowing multiple check boxes.

Taking a brief break from the Continental Op to read the "Fifty Years of Dungeons & Dragons" from MIT Press.
I'm putting my review as I go over at: D&D General - Fifty Years of Dungeons & Dragons, collection of essays published by MIT Press
Ongoing review part II - Chapters 6-10:
Ch.6 - Iantorno interviews Dancey on the OGL. I'm not sure if there is tons new here that we haven't heard before, but it was a solid interview with long answers from Dancey, and it's very nice to have it all in one place. I wish there could have been a...
The Dancey interview about the OGL in the new "Fifty Years of Dungeons & Dragons" (MIT Press) makes the point that he believed the biggest competitor they had (when planning 3rd edition) was previous editions of D&D. And that second edition struggled in part because it didn't get as many 1e...
I find it much easier to just skim past posts I find at least vaguely plausible than the ones I think are wholly ill-conceived. And even those don't bother me tons if it is just once in a while. But when it feels like it is thread after thread after thread of things that make me go WTF...

In regards to my own question. The chapter on Holmes Basic in the new "Fifty Years of Dungeons & Dragons" talks about how D&D spread in California in large part through SCA and science fiction clubs. And that "Southern California supported a strong speculative fiction fan community through the...
So far the psionics not being commonly used is leading by a lot. (9 used it in roughly 1/2 or more campaigns, 10 used it in a few campaigns, and 33 just a few times or never).
Also, people who didn't play 1e are apparently very likely to be angry and non-communicative. ;-)
My aphantasia is crushing me on this one because I can't conjure up a clear image in my head of many of them. The silver one (that was released a while ago) reminds me of one of the MtG ones though. The others they've revealed seem fine to me so far.
Have they been consistent from 1e - B/X -...
Ongoing review part I - Chapters 1-5:
Ch.1 - The introduction is fine for an introduction. I really like all of the references to previous books, articles, and news stories here and throughout. (Do many people "dial in" to things online for gaming, or does that date the author?)
The new...
